Having common targets for training develops good relationships. Work done together has a positive effect on people, strengthens attachments and brings mutual respect. So train with people whom you like anyway. Help each other and enjoy the training, then you will improve and continue to develop.
Most training sessions are a one person activity: taking 30-60 minutes, and we often do not have much time, so concentrate on this 30-60 minutes. You can chat, but then the training will last for twice as long, which becomes ineffective. I don't chat when training, I prefer to concentrate.
You will find your own pace with regular training. In social training, you may not make much progress, since you can't listen to your instincts and adapt the training to what is best for you. But, on the contrary, if the company is good, train together, look at each other's movements and encourage each other to stick to more regular and concentrated sessions.
I also like gyms, because everybody works on similar targets, and it is good to feel part of a community. It frustrates a lot of people if they are watched during training. But I assure you: if a stranger looks at you in the gym, he or she will not care of you, because he is there for himself and not for you.
